How to think like a philosopher (and when not to)

March 7, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

£4 – £7

Standard accounts of philosophical reasoning focus on rules of deductive logic, valid arguments, fallacies and so on. Although these are all important, in this talk Dr Julian Baggini wants to switch the focus to the attitudes and habits of thought advocated by “virtue epistemology”.

He will argue that the formal dimensions of reasoning are less important than the virtues of thought. Furthermore, Julian will argue that at the ways philosophers think can sometimes lead us astray and that there are times when we should not think like philosophers at all.
