ReadJesus is widely hailed as a great moral teacher. But does he qualify as a moral philosopher? In this video, I argue that although he appears to be very far from a philosopher, that says more about our misunderstandings of moral philosophy than it does about him.

ReadJesus was anti-family, opposed the condemnation of sexual sinners, and was completely silent on abortion. It is a mystery how evangelicals today square this with their righteous condemnation of the behaviour of others and their desire to control it by law. The Jesus who said “Judge not, that ye be not judged: condemn not, that ye be not condemned” would be appalled to see his so-called followers today look to the Supreme Court to enforce their values.
ReadEven if we don’t believe that Jesus was the son of God, we tend to think he was a great moral teacher. But was he? And how closely do idealised values such as our love of the family, helping the needy, and the importance of kindness, match his original tenets?
